Adding floating aquatic plants to a water garden can be a highly effective means of filtration and surface coverage. Since these are free-floating plants (without soil-based roots), they obtain all their nutrients from the water, consuming nutrients algae would otherwise consume. Floating plants typically do not require elaborate lighting because, regardless of the system, they always receive more light than other plants.
Everything about oxygen transfer
The same holds for CO2. They do not require CO2 injections because CO2 is naturally present in the air.
AllĀ floating aquarium plants have the potential to create a barrier on the water’s surface that prevents oxygen exchange with the atmosphere and photosynthesis in the water; consequently, unchecked growth of floating plants will reduce oxygen levels and increase the likelihood of a fish kill.
Do aquarium plants that float multiply?
Most floating aquarium plants reproduce so rapidly that you will primarily be responsible for removing some of the plants. You don’t want the plants to cover the entire tank’s surface, so you’ll need to remove some plants periodically to maintain a healthy environment. Attach the feeding ring to the aquarium vase so that the ring itself floats on the water’s surface. Then, all that remains is to add fish food… And thus, the ring contains all the fish food, preventing it from floating throughout the aquarium.
